Our Port of Entry is now open and will serve as our 'mini-chamber-of
commerce' for East Texas and Mineola.  The Port of Entry is open 7 days a
week and will serve our guests as a comfortable visiting area providing
information about upcoming events and/or festivals, brochures and maps of
interesting things to do or see, menus or restaurant suggestions and several
    suggested 'day trips'.

  • With complimentary coffee or soft drink at hand, you'll be able to
leisurely relax in the comfortably decorated Port of Entry to consider all
of the possibilities and plan your day trip outings or even an overnight
trip to Dallas via the Amtrak.  (Did you know Amtrak from Mineola takes
you right to the Union Station in Dallas, just a few blocks from the
    Kennedy Museum and eternal flame?)

  • As you investigate and enjoy our area, we hope you'll let us know about
any places we should add to our information.

  • Remember:  We'd love for you to stay with us for months and months or
come back as often as you can manage.  Just call us HOME while you go
    'Somewhere' from 'Somewhere!"

According to some older locals, the motel existed before US Highway 80 was even a paved
road.  Supposedly it was a very popular place to live or visit during the depression era and even
more so after US HWY 80 became THE major East - West 'interstate'.  After the creation of I-20
(Interstate 20) fewer and fewer travelers dropped in and cabins were rented for longer terms.

One fellow remembers staying months at a time in the 1950's and 1960's.  He would stay at the
motel on weekdays while he worked in town and then return to 'the farm' on weekends.

The majority of the motel was demolished and removed in recent years, however, two
dilapidated buildings remained standing when we purchased the property in fall of 2006.

In order to keep some Mineola history alive, we have renovated the two buildings for park use.
The old caretaker cottage is now our PORT OF ENTRY.  The last cabin left standing is now our
Laundry-Shower building aka THE BIRD BATH.

Bird Bath:  So called because our park is broken into two sections.  In respect for and close
proximity to
Mineola's Nature Preserve on the Sabine River, we have the Hummingbird Park  (6
pull thrus for folks who flit in and out and only stay a week or less) and our Nester's Park (28
back-in
spaces for folks to 'build a nest' and stay a week or more).
